I can not open a file to attach to an email

Recently I began having trouble attaching a file in Outlook from a folder. I
can attach a file if it is stand alone but not if it is in one of my folders.
The error message is that insert is not responding and then it sends a report
to Microsoft. I have tried detect and repair and also System Restore. Detect
and Repair indicated a successful load and System Restore indicated that
nothing has changed. Coincidently I have had trouble saving an attachment. I
have run Spyware, Norton Antivirus and did a various other checks all to no
avail. The errors point back to word but nothing has helped isolate the
problem.

Thank you. I attempted to do the regedit but was unclear on how to set the
data value to 1. Also based on the string of messages it appears that
(speculation) Microsoft may have a fix soon. Any idea when? I am always
reluctant to do regedits.

After you've inserted the key name, click away from it. Then right-click on
it and choose Modify to get a dialog where you can set the value. I've
requested that the KBA be revised to include this info but so far have
received no feedback.

Thank you, Thank You, Thank You. This helped beyond belief. In most of the
tips including the one on Microsofts page tehy do no suggest clicking away
and you can never get it right.
Thank You again!

Suzanne:
Thank you a thousand-fold!!!
I've been wrestling with this problem for two days, without success.
You have saved my life, and hopefully many others.
Why, oh why, does Microsoft do this kind of thing?
You're the best.

My guess is that at this point the KBA will not be modified since it's been
announced that MS will have a "revised" (corrected) update available on
Tuesday.
