I cannot align text on same document

Hello everybody, I hope someone can help me. I use Word2004 and most of
the time I cannot align different text of my document as I please, IE
if I align the date to the right, all the document aligns to the right,
and so on. Has anyone else experienced this? there must be a simple
solution. Cheers
