I cannot attach files after I customized outlook form

I have tried and succeeded to customize the default
outlook form (IPM.Note.) for Sending, Reading, Forwarding,
Replying to mails etc. I have added a new custom field in
which I add a small note regarding the content of the
mail. I have also given a provision to change the category
for the mail (read/composed) from the form itself. It
works OK however I am not able to attach files to the
mail. It embeds the file in the mail (like in word) and
not as an attachment. People who are using Outlook can
view the attachment (as an embedded file in the mail)
however people using Outlook express or other mail client
are not able to download the file. Netscape users get
a ".dat" file along with the mail but no attachment. Pl.
tell me a way to get it working. I am using Windows 98 OS
with Outlook 2000. Also I am using MS word as the default
mail editor.

Could you please share your knowledge on how you customized the default
outlook form? I have been able to design and publish but when I create new
mail
it is in its original outlook (non customized) format. I, too
use Outlook2000 and Windows 2000. If you prefer, you can email
me directly at (e-mail address removed) (pl. remove _nospam_)

This is expected behavior and messy. When you send a customized form, the Winmail.dat attachment contains both information about the form and an encoded copy of any attachments. These, of course, are not readable by non-Outlook users.

One possible solution is to make sure that recipients either have OUtlook or their addresses are marked in your Contacts folder for plain-text only.

Another solution is to use the Item_Send event handler to create a new HTML format message using Outlook objects or a plain text message using CDO objects.

Sounds like you need to add the message control back to the form by dragging the Message field from the Field Chooser to one of your customized pages.

I have not removed the message control, it still exists. I tried the
following:
1) Change the mail format to Text and deactivate the MS Word editor then
it works OK.
2) Make the changes as stated in Pt 1 and later change the editor back
to MS Word it dosent work.
3) Use VB script to attach objects, it dosent work.
