I cannot CANCEL 'Speak Cells on Enter'

We have tried everything, but no matter what, 'Speak Cells on Enter'
continues. I have added "Stop Speaking Cells" and tried using that. I have
tried adding the 'Speak Cells on Enter' tool to the Quick Access and tried
toggling it. Nothing. Having turned it on... Nice thought... I CANNOT
turn it off..

Please, someone... I see others have had this problem since 2007, but have
seen no useful advice other than the standard... Click Excel 2007, Excel
Options, All Commands.. etc. I've tried adding and removing the Speak...
options to the Quick Access Toolbar, and deleting them. BUT my cells
continue talking to me when I enter new data. HOW do I stop it.
My work colleagues are laughing at me - my office door is closed - the
bl...y thing keeps talking. Do I need to un-install and re-install
(maybe...) Office 2007?

You might try changing the related setting in your registry.

-Close Excel
-In Start->Run type "Regedit.exe" (no quotes).
-Navigate to this location:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Excel\Options
-Find "SpeakOnEnter" in the right pane.
-Select this item and press Delete. Or you can double-click it and change
its value to 0.
-Close Regedit.
