I cannot get rid of tags on Word 2007

Black symbols come up at the beginning over every paragraph and periods or
dots with spacing....how do I get rid of these?

It was... you just have to read a little bit. If the content of that
reference didn't solve your problem -- then post back.

The quick answer is that you can press Ctrl+Shift+8 to hide the nonprinting
marks. FWIW, this shortcut is also mentioned in the article that Suzanne
linked you to (and the article, although written for older versions of Word,
also describes what nonprinting marks are good for).
