I cannot save anything

Hi,
The situation is I took over for an employee at my comp[any. He
developed a tooling database, but I cannot update anything it gives me a
messege "You won't be able to save changes made to data or object definitions
in this database". I for one am not the best with a computer but I can make
due with what I know. How can I change this so I am able to save files? I do
not know if he saved this onto a CD or anything, the only thing I know is he
made the program from scratch in Microsoft Access. PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!

Hi,

It does sound as though your database is read only... check that it's being
opened on a hard disk (not a cd/dvd) and that the file isn't set to read
only... Also check that you have enough permissions.

No. I checked the properties, nothing has been checked as read only.

Hi,

A couple of things to check:

- Is there a file with the same filename as the database, in the same
folder, with a .LDB extension? If so, delete it.
- Try opening Access *WITHOUT* opening the database; use File... Open;
select the database, and choose the dropdown option to open it
exclusively. If you can do so, use Tools... Options... Advanced to
change the default open mode to Exclusive.
- It may be appropriate to use Tools... Database utiltities... Compact
and Repair to clear out any old temporary data.
