I cannot save new documents. Word becomes unresponsive.

Whenever I try to save a new document word becomes unresponsive. Nothing
happens. I sent error reports and got a link to updates which are installed.
I uninstalled/ installed Office 2003. Nothing. I tried system recovery. That
doesn't work either. My machine is only 2 months old, so why am I having
these problems?
Oh, virus scanner etc. all active and uptodate.
