I cannot set an appointment in outlook. "Verify your credentials

I have had no trouble, until recently, in setting an appointment.
I don't do this often, but, currently clicking on the calendar (any day for
example) doesn't bring up a appointment screen, and neither does the pull
down menu (from the file menu).

I use another system for calendaring mostly, but NEED to use outlook for
certain critical appointments...HLEP
