I cant access clip art within publisher

P

Patio Man

Microsoft Office XP Small Business Version 2002.
Despite deleting the whole OFFICE programme and reloading it I can not
access clipart whilst using Publisher.
It is on my computer because I can open it up in Explorer but have to cut
and paste the picture I choose into my active document, a bit slow, tedious
and annoying.
When making a search it shows an icon which is similar to an artists pallette.
When clicking on properties it shows them all as "Paint Shop Pro files"

Does the Clip Organizer open? Have you installed the Organizer, it will be on Disk 2.
In Windows Explorer, folder options, on the File Types tab, click WMF Windows Media
File in the Registered File Types box, and then click Remove (or Delete).
When you are prompted to confirm the change, click Yes, and then click OK.
Double-click a WMF file in My Computer or Windows Explorer. When you are prompted for
the program to use to open the file, select the program that you want (for example,
select Windows Picture and Fax Viewer or Internet Explorer).

Thanks for your prompt reply to my problem.
When reinstalling Office I installed the whole of the contents on both discs.
I have tried to follow your instructions but when opening the "Registered
File Types Box" I only had one option starting with WMF and that was "WMF
Image"
I thought it best to come to you before I do any more damage to my set up,
if you can offer any further suggestions I would be most grateful.

Mary Sauer.

I should have added that the "Cip Organizer" opens.
Well I think it does, everything seems to be the same as a few days ago when
Publisher/Clipart was ok, it is when I enter a category in the search box,
there is a long delay before the boxes fill up with "Paint Shop Pro" icons

Empty your Internet cache, in Internet Explorer, tools, Internet Options, delete
files.
Open the Organizer from start, Microsoft Office Tools, when the Organizer opens,
tools, compact.
What application are your images associated with? This is the key, right-click any
image, properties, opens with...change. If it says PhotoShop, change the association
to another viewer.
Do a detect and repair under help.

The Office 2003 service pack 2 corrected this issue according to this article:

Generic icons appear in the Web Collections folder of Clip Organizer in an Office
2003 program

To Mary Sauer.
After a couple of days of frantic activity and panic, I can now access my
clip art but not through the normal window that appears when clicking the
clipart icon/head on the left of the screen.
I have to go through the tool bar at top of screen, Insert> Picture>
Clipart, a bit of "around the houses" but at least the clips are catagorised,
id that spelt correctly.
The main benefits I have gained from this, my first venture in to a
discussion group is the knowledge that their is usually someone out there to
help in desparate times.
Perusing the queries and responses it is amazing what some people know about
this computing lark.
You in particular offer sound advice for a number of these problems and it
is good to know there is help available, and in understandable language too.
Many Thanks.

Thank you, Patio Man, for the feedback. I truly appreciate your taking the time to
post. I've never had the clipart icon on my object toolbar, I have the Organizer on
my desk top as a standalone, I drag/drop images.

No problem offering feed back, your reply how ever raises more, for me,
unponderables, Organizer on Desk Top, I am sure it is straight forward for
you, but me, I dare not go there.
Not sure about how to post my rating of the reponse I have had to my
question, so will 11 out of 10 be sufficient.
Seasons Greetings to you and thanks, I have a feeling I may well be back in
the future.
