I can't access hotmail via entourage

Hi all,

For the past several days I've been frustrated by an error message
every time entourage has tried to access my hotmail account. The
access block has been happening even though I haven't changed any
settings, passwords, or
anything else (what I did do though, which hasn't affected the problem
in any way, was accepting a cookie from
hotmail.com after my problem started, which I'll talk a little bit more
about in the last paragraph). This is the error message:

"Mail could not be received at this time.

The server for account "hotmail" returned the error "Logon failure:
unknown user name or bad password." Your username/password or security
settings may be incorrect. Would you like to try re-entering your
password?"

So I can't access hotmail via entourage, but I'm able to log in to
hotmail's web interface just fine.

Something unusual that happened within the past several days, but which
occured *after* I started getting that error message was that entourage
(and not my web browser) asked me, while I was trying to download my
hotmail messages using entourage, whether I wanted to accept a cookie
from hotmail. I accepted the cookie, but it didn't fix my problem or
change the nature of the access blockage, at least in any way I could
percieve.

Oh, by the way, I'm running Entourage 10.1.4 (030702) on Mac OS 10.3.9.

It could be a keychain issue./.. Try opening the Keychain application
and use the Keychain First Aid command to try to repair the keychain.
If it doesn't work, look for your hotmail entry in your keychain and
delete it to let Entourage re-create a fresh new one.

Before I came back to check up on whether anyone had any ideas about my
problem, I decided to search mactopia for updates. There I found the
security update to Office X 10.1.6 (The version I was having problems
with was 10.1.4):

Long story short, installing the security update seems to have solved
my hotmail-access problem!

Here are some details which may be irrelevant for now but may be useful
to anyone else who has similar problems... After I installed the
security update and before I tried to access hotmail using entourage, I
installed the powerpoint and excel updates I'd also downloaded. At the
moment I'm syncing my treo using entourage conduit, and thankfully the
updates I just installed don't seem to have broken it (as far as I can
tell at the moment).

Whew! For a few days I was worried that I'd have to redo my whole PIM
routine. Now, with my efficiency renewed, I'll once again have plenty
of time to play tetris.
