I can't believe no one knows the answer

I have two unanswered postings that boil down to "Why doesn't Access 2002
under Vista recognize an F1 key being pressed?" I have been forced to put
about 60 buttons on forms to do something that the F1 key is supposed to do
-- bring up my help files in context. This is
rediculous!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You may not realize this, but these newsgroups are manned strictly by unpaid
volunteers who do not work for Microsoft.

"Ridiculous" is a bit strong...

I am well aware of the fact.

well, one advantage of being unpaid volunteers, is that we get to choose
which posts to answer and which to ignore. personally, i steer clear of
posts that display a bad attitude or chip on the shoulder from the get-go;
i'd have to get paid, to put myself in the position of interacting with
unpleasant people. but maybe there are others here more generous than i;
good luck with resolving your question.

Well, you're assuming the issue has to do with Access and not Vista. I'm not
using Vista, so I can 't help you, but I can tell you that my new keyboard has a
button that toggles the F keys on and off. When my F11 key fails to bring up
the database, I say, "Oh yeah ... gotta toggle them things on."

What makes you think it's Access's fault? Do any of your F keys work? Do
they work for other applications but not Access. Have you done *any* debugging
at all in this?

There are instructions from MS concerning F1 not working with help files
about creating a module with 3 functions, and a macto with "AutoKeys" that
intercepts the F1 key and directs the action to the "HelpEntry()" function
(one of the three). I have flollowed those instructions and placed stops in
these to displlay the HelpContext name and ID. When I press the F1 key from
within my Access program (which worked before with the .hlp program), it
doesn't go to the HelpEntry function. I put a help button on my form(s) and
OnClick tells it to execute the HelpEntry function and it works -- brings up
the help topic.

When I display the Database form, the F keys work. When I press Alt+F1 from
Access, I get the Microsoft Access Help. From MS Access Basic, when I press
the F1 only, i get the Microsoft Access Help. From my program, when I press
F1, I get no response, and can't trigger a trap. So my assumption is that it
isn't recognizing F1 from my program (which, as I said before, it recognized
and sent me to MyProgram.hlp.)

And if anyone else thinks I have bad manners, I am truly sorry. I didn't
mean to offend. But if this is the only path MS has for help, then MS needs
to make a little investment.

I seem to remember that traditional Windows help was removed from
Vista, and now you only have HTML Help.

But thanks you for taking the time to read and respond.
