I can't connect my text boxes and arrows

At my school computer I can connect the text boxes and the arrows at certain
places.
In my laptop I can't. Is there anything i'm missing?

You don't mention version, but in Word 2003 the shapes need to be in a
Drawing Canvas for the connectors to work.
