I can't create macros.

I cannot create macros. I click on record and an error message appears and says "Unable to record." I am on a school network and part of our assignment is to create macros.

I am not sure if there are files that I should delete or move or what. There is also an error message whenever I open any Microsoft program that says "Object Library not Defined" or something similar. What does that mean and how can I fix it?

Thanks a bunch!

Hi,

It sounds like the school has blocked Excel from being able to write
files involved in the recording process to the server.

This may be intentional to force you to write your own code. If you are
supposed to be able to use the macro recorder then you will have to ask
whomever is in charge (most likely your teacher) to have the IT people
fix the problem.

Hey Jim -

It wasn't clear to me whether the OP is using a system on the school's
network or whether it's *his* Mac connected to the network. I can't remember
- I haven't installed 2004 in quite some time - but isn't it also possible
that the VBA stuff isn't installed? Isn't at least some of it required for
the recorder to function?

Hi Bob,

All installations of Office 2004 include the Visual Basic Editor,
compiler, and ability to run Macros, etc. You can't choose to leave out
Visual Basic, although you can leave off the add-ins supplied with Office.

Thanks Jim - It was just a thought. Like I said, I haven't installed 2004 in
quite some time & couldn't remember if the VBA functionality was optional or
not... Perhaps I was thinking of RealBasic.
