I can't delete a locked document

Everytime that I try to delete the locked document, it won't let me. I
have tried right-clicking and going to the properties area of the word
file. The 'read-only' box is gray and won't let me change it. I just
would like to get rid of the file. The icon on the desktop has a locked
lock on it...your help is much appreciated!!
