I can't delete an empty folder on my desktop. Why?

I created a folder on my desktop some time back and t here is nothing in it
and I can't delete it. Every time I click to delete it, it goes into the
recycle bin but then it appears back on my desktop. This is driving me
crazy? Why won't it go away? ;-)

Suggest you ask in a Windows newsgroup, as this is not done via Microsoft
Office.
