i can't find the audio recording button in word

When I installed office 2004 on my mac I chose the custom installation
by accident. and now, when i want to record audio, while using word i
can't find the audio recording button. In case I did install, where
might it be? and if i didn't install it, is there a way that i can
install the components i didn't install the first time (that is
without having to by a new product key). I really need this for
university, so any help i can get will be highly appreciated!

Hi,

you need to be in Notebook Layout view to see the recording button. As far
as I know, it is impossible to customise the toolbar in that view, so be
sure to let us know if the button is indeed missing. To get to Notebook
Layout view, click on View>Notebook Layout, or hit the fourth button in the
lower left corner of the document window.

Hi Corentin -

Are you sure about that? I can't test it on a Mac right now, but in Word
2003 the Reading Layout Toolbar and the Headers/Footers Toolbar normally
don't appear in the Toolbars List of the Customize dialog. However, if
you're in that mode when you bring up the Customize dialog the view's
toolbar is displayed, it does show up in the list & it can be customized.

I haven't ever tried with the Notebook toolbar but I'm pretty sure I
remember being able to customize the H/F toolbar in 2004... Might play with
it when I get home:)

I'm sure... We bugged it, and were told it was "By design" :)

Yeah, bullheaded & stubborn as I am I just gave it a try... As you probably
know you can't even get into the Customize screen from Notebook Layout...
But I wasn't in on the 2004 Beta:) - But at least memory served me
correctly [for once] re the H/F bar.

I'm not 100% on this, but I believe the audio file is actually embedded in
the doc, not saved as a separate file. I do know, however that you can
export the audio file for editing in an audio app if that's what you're
getting at - Tools> Audio Notes> Export Audio.

That's true. If you need to get to the audio file, exporting the audio
content, as described in Bob's answer, is the only way to go.
