I can't fix my copy/paste

I am trying to copy text and paste it as I've done a zillion times before,
but now when I copy/paste all it pastes is an asterik sign.
I've obviously created some type of short cut and don't know how to fix
this, any suggestions?

There are several causes of this. It is often because there is a third party
utility installed that is messing with the Office clipboard. Another reason
is the temp folder is over-full with abandoned crap. See
