I can't get my stuff to fill the screen

Hi all, I am new to MAC, but I noticed on PP, Word, Excel - when I hit to +
sign to maximize to the full size of the screen, it only goes maybe 3/4 of
it (if that)...but in Entourage, it is full length of the screen. How can I
get the 3 other programs to fill the screen when opened?

Am I doing something wrong? (is this making sense?)

Thanks
Kimberly

Have you tried dragging the bottom right hand corner of the
application window to get the size you want? If necessary move the
wimdow to the right place by dragging the title bar.

Hi Kimberley,

Welcome to the Mac!

You aren't doing anything wrong--this is one of the ways Mac and Windows
are different. Apple determines what the green maximize button does,
and it doesn't really maximize. Instead, "in Mac OS X, the green “+â€
button would simply resize the current window to its optimal width and
height, taking into consideration the current window contents."
Entourage's optimal is pretty wide--Word's isn't. (I'm surprised about
PPT and Excel, though)

Once you set them as Phil says, they should pretty much remember those
settings most of the time.

Annoying, yeah? Well, not for those with a 23-inch monitor. Here's a
good explanation of what's up:

I took the quotation from this informal but good explanation of why it
matters.

To get the Finder to remember the setting. Close window after you set as
desired then reopen.
