I can't get rid of this toolbar!

Every time I open a Word document I get the Control toolbar. I practically
never use it and want the space back. I'm sick of turning it off manually.
How can I get it to stop opening automatically? I've tried the reset button
on the Customize menu.

The display of the Control Toolbox indicates the presence of ActiveX
controls, disabled as a result of the macro security settings.

When are you seeing the Control Toolbox? When you are opening a
specific document? When you are opening any document? When you are
creating a new document?

If the problem occurs as you create a new blank document, you may want
to rename your Normal template as explained at
http://word.mvps.org/faqs/apperrors/BlankDocNotBlank.htm.
