Hi Rowena,
The MS Installer software basically expects
to always have access to the original install source
to either restore or repair damaged files.
You may want to try to download the larger 'admin'
version of the update rather than the client update.
The admin update uses file replacement (the download
is larger) rather than patching the original files.
The Admin download may install without the original
product CD if there is no damage to the installation.

He means that he can't install service pack 3 because it requires the
original XP CD with the Pro.msi file. I have the same problem because I'm
currently travelling and don't have the original XP installation disk, it's
somewhere safe and I have no idea where that is, and consquently MS Office is
crashing all the time. can anyone help with a way round this.
{Previous poster probably couldn't complete his post because his IE probably
crashed before he had time to}. >>
