i cant open a .doc document with word

My Normal Template appears to have been amended in some way and now i cant
open existing .doc documents with Word, although i can open them with
wordpad.

When i try to open them, i just get the answer that the document isnt
available.

I think my seven year old has been messing about with things.

Any advice

If you're using Symantec/Norton AntiVirus, try disabling the
