I can't open my Outlook meeting request

I sent out a recurring meeting earlier this week in my Outlook calendar.
It's showing up in my calendar, but when I try to open it (so I can see who
has 'accepted' and who has 'declined') it gives me the following error
message: "Can't open this item. The operation failed."

What's up with that? I HAVE to get this item open! Help!
