I can't open the Outlook!

I bought a new computer and using the office 2003 60day trial version that
attached on new computer. But I decide that i don't need that no longer,
because I wanna save money for activation fee and I already had have previous
version(office 2002). So I erase the office 2003 through the Control pannel
and I installed the office 2002. But when I click the Outlook, that shown the
error message like this

" Unable to open your default e-mail folders. Could not open the item. Try
again."
then
" Would you like to open your default File System folder instead?"
then
" Runtime Error!
Program: c:\PROGRA~1\MI1933~1\OFFICE10\OUTLOOK.EXE.
This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual
way.
Please contact the application's support team or more information."

How can I do this? Please let me know for this problem..outlook express is
working good, but I can open outlook 2002.

Probably because Outlook 2003 created a unicode PST file which Outlook 2002
can't read. Is there much data in there that you care about?

I have the EXACT same problem. My .pst file is still located in C:\Documents
and Settings\Ev\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook, but the
icon reflects that the system doesn't recognize the application that is
associated with it. I opened PROPERTIES and associated it with OUTLOOK, but
it didn't have any impact. Right clicking on the desktop icon for OUTLOOK,
and then PROPERTIES opens a dialogue box where email, data file and profile
can be specified. It still contains my correct email server settings, but it
does not reflect my .pst file nor does it recognize that I already have a
profile; additionally, it does not allow me to update either data file
location or profile. I have not been able to locate any posts, FAQs or
support that explains what is happening.

Ben, I don't understand how to use your answer to help me. I need to know
how to make the outlook 2002 version work - how do I make the formats
compatible? I installed Outlook 2002 on my HP computer with Windows XP home
edition. When I click the Outlook icon, I get the following error message:

I need to be able to open Outlook so I can run activesync for my phone. Can
somebody help me?
