well not me, but a firend claims if she tries to open any word documents from
anywhere but her my documents folder that the computer freezes and she has to
reboot. Any ideas? she's using either MS Word XP or MS Word 2003. I
haven't seen this happen but trying to get ideas before I troubleshoot for
her.

This is excellent advice. I began experiencing he same problem trying open
word document within My Documents of MS Word after recent security updates -
I would get screen freezes and Word would lock up. I went this website and
notice that the problem had to do with a conflict with my HP Officejet
software. Luckily, I did not have to go into the registry, which I am
reluctant to do as a journeyman with more complex problems. Since my
problems began with my laptop and I am networked with my desktop where my HP
Officejet is directly connected, I simply eliminated my HP software from my
laptop and BINGO , the problem was solved. So, Ms. Barnhill had the solution.
If you cant eliminate the HP software, I presume the registry edit is the
only way to go until there is a patch sent out by HP. Somebody needs to let
them know.

I have heard that HP does have a patch. You have to ask.

I read elsewhere that there was an updated Scan-to-Web driver available at
the HP site. I haven't had time to investigate, however.
