I can't open word files from explorer

When I double click a word file from my desk top or explorer listing, I get a pop-up indicating that the file can't be opened. If I am in Word, however, I have no problem opening the files. I have tried re-associating .doc files to open with Word, to no avail. Any ideas? Oh ,the OS is Windows 95, app is Word 97.

Hi, Viki. I'm sorry I can't remember the s/w precisely,
but it sounds as though the associations have been
changed - go into Help and search for "association".
Change .doc so that it's associated with Word.
