I cant seem to "SET AS HOMEPAGE" on a pg that i downloaded to use

B

BamaCrutch

I downloaded a webpage template from DESIGNLOAD.NET. However, I cant set
the index.htm as my homepage. I cant see the Navigation, however the
hyperlinks of the template pages are showing up fine and the links work fine
in preview mode. Do I have a problem? And does "Navigationi" have to work
before I have a workable website to publish?
Thanks

You have to name it what your server requires...that could be; index.htm,
index.html, default.htm, default.html...even home.htm, home.html.

The FP Software - when I right click - to assign the "index" page as my HOME
PAGE - does not have a "SET AS HOMEPAGE" selection on the drop down box - -
-which is unlike a web page you create from an internal FP template. When I
click NAVIGATION - it tells me to create a "Home Page" which i can't do.

With your FP web/site opened on your local hd, in Folder List is there a
page with a little house as the icon?...if there is that is your home page.

I have the exact same problem - no "set as home page" choice when I right
click on a file while in the navigation view. Don't know the answer yet.
It's messing up my link bars, because they don't know what the home page is.

Which version of FP are you running?

In Folder List does it show a home page? You'll see a little house icon if
there is a home page.
If you created a Web/Site a default Home page is generally created
automajickly.

In Folder List right click the page you want to set as Home and you'll see
the prompt to Set As Home

Yes and no. I have had it show the house icon, then other times it's gone.
And about the right click to see the "Set as home" choice, that's what I
don't have - that option is not in the list. Why is it not there?

R

Rob Giordano \(Crash\)

You probably did not create a web/site but rather a bunch of loose web
pages. Does the folder that you pages are in have a blue globe on the folder
icon?

I think you're on it - I see some other folders (template sites) with green
globes, and their "type" is website, whereas my "type" is folder. And in
those, I can right click on a page and I DO get the "set as home page"
option. Nice work, Crash! Now, how do I create a website instead of a bunch
of loose web pages? I appreciate your help.

R

Rob Giordano \(Crash\)

kewl...

Welp...you can create a blank web/site in FP and then import all those loose
items...that may be the easiest.

or you can put all the pieces in a folder and right click on it and Convert
to Web. BTW...never ever do Convert to Web on lets say your My Documents
folder...that would be bad.

Crash, you are da man! You've solved all my problems, both with the linkbars
and home pages. I did the convert option on my folder, and was able to set a
home page and insert linkbars that work as advertised. I'll try to publish
it tomorrow, but for now, I think you've solved my problem! Thanks a bunch.

R

Rob Giordano \(Crash\)

I hope so...and you're welcome.
