I can't turn off the paste options button - it keeps coming back.

In Word 2007, clicking the Office button / Word Options / Advanced / Copy and
Paste section - the checkbox to "Show paste options button" is supposed to
allow you to turn the feature off. When unchecking the box, however, the
paste options button still appears. If I go back through the menu to look,
the "Show paste..." box has been checked again.

I've tried making the change and exiting Word, exiting with a Ctrl-Click,
but nothing works. How can I turn off this feature and make it stick?

You may have to delete the Data key in the registry, with Word closed. When
you restart Word, the key will be recreated with the factory default
settings, but hopefully it you will will then be able to set the desired
option.

If you frequently lose your options, you may want to create AutoNew and
AutoOpen macros in your normal.dotm file setting the desired options. In
particular, you would want to include this code (in each of those two
macros):

Options.DisplayPasteOptions = True

See also http://www.gmayor.com/installing_macro.htm, which also has more
examples of using auto macros like that.
