I can't type into an email window

I would really appreciate some help. In fact I am desperate! It's Friday
afternoon and I want to leave work. Suddenly I can't type an email. My mouse
works on the tool bar at the top, I can click on the font button etc, but
when I try to type into the main email window, it simply won't let me. I've
tried double clicking into it but nothing. Any ideas gratefully received.

Is it a NEW message that you are trying to type in, or just an email
that you want to add something to?
