I can't view embedded images in my email (sending or recieving)

The problem I'm having is that embedded pictures are just showing up
as a white box with a thin black border...no "X", no error message, no
nothing. I can't figure out how to fix it, I've added everyone I know
to my safe list...when I try to imbed images they show up as the same
empty white box but the image is visible to the recipients of my
email...I just have to keep asking if they can see the image or not
(annoying!).

I could just attach images, but for my job I prefer to embed them. The
same goes for Excel content that has been copied and pasted into an
email. Nothing but a white box. I right click on them, and I don't
have any options of doing anything useful to solve this problem.

Anybody have any ideas?? I can't find anything in the Outlook help
section or online it seems.

Thanks!

I can NOT believe I FINALLY found someone who has the same problem as I have!
Exactly! Kate, did you know that after you embed the picture, and before
you send it, that if you grab a corner to resize it, you will see a ghostly
version of the photo until you let go? Then it goes back to the same white
box with the thin black border. I even UNINSTALLED my Outlook 2007 on my
Dell running Vista Ultimate, then REINSTALLED a fresh copy from the CD's.
It's STILL there! I Changed to Thunderbird, but hated it. Tried Windows
Mail and Windows Live Mail, but I want my Outlook. I am a photographer, and
I need this to get fixed.

Why is it that every time, I'm told to "uncheck" the box in the options that
controls whether or not potentially unsafe images are downloaded when you
open your messages. I have never had that option checked. It isn't checked
now.

Have you had anyone tell you what the answer is yet? If so, PLEASE let me
know!
(e-mail address removed) I have spent hundreds of hours googling the
entire internet and searching Outlook/Microsoft forums, looking for help.
I've posted on Microsoft forums, only to be told to uncheck the box. I tell
them I don't have a little red "x" box, I have a white box the size of the
image that is imbedded.

THANKS for posting! I hope you have found a solution.

This has been a tricky for me too. I fixed it a while ago and I had to reload outlook and I forgot all bout it BUT suddenly, it came ot me. The easiest way is the following:

Open a message with pictures embeded and somewhere in the middle between the from address and date sent do a "right" click. A menu will come up with checkmarks about downloading pictures for this message or for ALL pictures. Unclick next to all and exit and reload your outlook. It should work. I cannot find the option any where else in the outlook options.

Panos,

I have tried this on several different emails and no where do I find this
menu that you are speaking of. I have done a right-click all over the header
area between the from and date sent fields, but this menu does not ever
appear. Can you give any other detail as to where to click? Can you post a
screen shot somewhere and provide the link as to what you are referring to?
Thanks,
Mike R.

I had the same problem. Just empty white boxes where the images were supposed
to be. But I found the answer to it on the net. It seems I selected an option
and never bothered to read what it was for (silly me).

It is the Show Picture Placeholders option.
The description for it says "Display an empty box in place of each graphic
in the document to improve scrolling performance"

If you have the same problem, do the following:

Create a New email, click the Office Button in the top left, choose the
Editor Options button at the bottom right, select Advanced, scroll down to
the "Display email content" section and make sure there is no tick next to
the "Show Picture Placeholders" option.

Try it. It worked for me right now :)

THAT WORKED!!!!! I have been fighting this for months and have never been
able to find the solution. Thank you for posting the solution you found. It
worked for me and I know it will work for other people who have this problem.
I don't remember ever checking that check box, so I'm wondering if in one of
the updates that I uploaded had it as the default setting. Now I know where
to look and how to help others.

Thanks again!!
