I close outlook 2007 but it still receives emails

On most occasions, when I close Outlook 2007, I still receive emails. The
only way I can stop downloading emails is to shut down the pc. After starting
up, it's ok. But as soon as Outlook has been opened once, I cannot stop it
from downloading. Any ideas anyone?

Minimizing Outlook to a tray icon is NOT closing it. If you elected to
minimize Outlook to a tray icon, use the File -> Close menu to actually
exit Outlook.
