I have tried resetting menus. I have tried reinstalling the software and the updates. I have seen several posts on the internet -- others are having the same problem. Unfortunately, I haven't seen a solution posted. Can someone please help? The File Menu is one of the most important in Excel.

Hmmm...

Haven't seen any widespread reports of resetting menus not working.

First, "reinstalling the software" is almost NEVER effective.
Applications just don't corrupt that frequently. It's a Windows-fix that
just doesn't work the same way on Macs. If you do ever reinstall Office,
make sure you do it with the Remove Office app, that removes the all the
ancillary files.

When you reset menus, did you select "Worksheet Menu bar" first (so that
the line is highlighted, not just the checkbox checked)? If so, the only
thing I can think of is that you've got some sort of haxie running.

An alternative is to, with XL closed (or it absolutely will not work),
delete the

~:Library:preferences:Microsoft:Office 2008:Excel Toolbars (12)

file (where ~ is your home directory).

If you try these and it still doesn't work, post back with any
menu-related haxies you're running.
