I format line 1 in bold; when I unbold line 2, line 1 UNBOLDS

What's going on? In in PP 2003, on the title master, in a text box (custom
design, but this text box could be a subtitle box of some kind) There is no
non-breaking return at end of line 1.

Any format change to any text propagates that change to ALL text in the text
box; change of font; bold, italics, etc. Oddly, if I demote (the bullet list
button is not selected), the font indents and assumes a different set of
formatting attributes, different from the other text, and no longer conforms
to any changes in the un-demoted text. What's happening? Thanks, jn
