I fouled up Word

Using: G4/667/1024/OSX10.3.3
Updates installed: Office SR1 and Update 10.1.2 and 10.1.3.
Have had some problems with Word lately (from Office:mac v.X) Corrected
corrupt Normal template a few weeks ago, now headers and footers no
longer work. So genius decides to uninstall Word (with Mac-uninstalller),
then reinstall Word from Office X disc.. Fine.
Now Word bounces in the dock, then immediately quits.
Checked out McGimpsey & Assoc. Very good.
I Repaired permissions. I checked fonts; no dups.
Tried to reinstall SR1 and Update 10.1.2 but computer says I don't need it.
Microsoft Component Plugin says 10.1.3, but reinstalled Word says 10.0.0.
(it was at 10.1.1). What to do?

Install the 10.1.4 then 10.1.5 updates. You are probably already in
10.1.3 (only the Microsoft Component Plugin matters).
Anyway, you should also repair the permissions on your Mac both before
and after the updates (use DiskUtility).

Hi Hooper,

It sounds like you only uninstalled and reinstalled Word, not all of Office?
I think that's your problem you don't have either a clean uninstall or
reinstall. Try this:

The Remove Office tool is located in the Value Pack folder on the Office X
CD. Install it and run it. Now reinstall Office X using the installer on
the CD or do a Drag & Drop to the Applications folder. Also don't forget to
install any Value Pack items you need. When you've finished, you'll need to
download (<http://www.microsoft.com/mac/download/>) and install the Office X
10.1.2 (includes the SR 1), 10.1.4 (includes 10.1.3) and 10.1.5 updaters.

For the most trouble-free installation, run Disk Utility First Aid to repair
permissions after you remove Office, after you reinstall it and after you
install all the updates. To repair permissions go to Macintosh
HD/Applications/Utilities; open up Disk Utility; select your hard disk and
click the First Aid tab and then the button to "Repair Disk Permissions".

Hope this helps.

Hi Corentin,
Many thanks for the advice. I installed Office Updates 10.1.4 and 10.1.5,
then repaired permissions. This is how it stands:
Entourage 10.1.4 (030702)
Excel 10.1.5 (030814)
Powerpoint 10.1.5 (030814)
WORD 10.0.0 (1316)
MSComponent Plugin 10.1.5 (030814)
Word still bounces in the dock and quits when I start it up.
Does the Office CD have an uninstaller? Do I have to un/reinstall again?

Oh Oh. I just received Beth's responce. That sounds right, not a clean install.
I'll try that. Thanks.

SUCCESS! All's well again. Thanks Corentin and Beth for the help. I un/
reinstalled Office using Remove Office Tool/repaired permissions/reinstalled
updates, now all working perfectly. Motorcycle maintenance works with
computers as well. All the best.

Wonderful. Indeed the fact that WOrd was remaining in 10.0.0 was not a
good sign...
I'm quite glad you got it to work :))) Thansk for posting the result
back in the group.
