It is because of wrong registry setting. To connect to Exchange server 2000 do the following

To resolve this problem, follow these steps
Quit all Microsoft Windows programs
Click Start, and then click Run
In the Open box, type regedit, and then click OK
Expand the Registry to the following key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Rpc\ClientProtocol
If any of the Registry values that are listed in the "Cause" section of this article are missing from the ClientProtocols key, follow these steps
Right-click ClientProtocols, point to New, and then click String Value
Type the Value Name of the entry that is missing, and then press ENTER
Right-click the Value Name that you typed in step b, and then click Modify
Type the appropriate Value Data for the Value Name that you typed in step b, and then click OK
Repeat step 5 for each missing value in the ClientProtocols key
Note Microsoft Outlook cannot connect to a Microsoft Exchange server if the registry entries that were previously mentioned are missing in the Windows Registry.
After this it´ll work on 100 % ....
