I get a "Run time error 53" when I try to open Word or Excel.

The header in the error notice box says:UserAuthInit, then the Runtime error
message, then "File Not Found". My computer freezes with just the wallpaper
showing on the desktop (no icons) and I have to re-boot.

Hi DeanL,

Start Word, keeping Shift pressed down.

Check Tools | Templates and Add-ins... - do you have any add-ins? If so,
they are probably located in either the startup directory (see Tools |
Options... | tab File Locations | Startup) or "C:\Program Files\Microsoft
Office\OFFICE11\STARTUP".

Rename them one by one to *.old instead of *.dot and test each time if the
behavior still occurs.
