I get error message: Database engine not able to lock table

When trying to create relationships between tables I get the message that the
database engine could not lock the table because it is in use by another
person or process. Since I am the only one using it, it must be the
computer's CPU or some other remote operation. However, even after wating a
while, the problem does not go away. What is the solution?

This also happens on single computers if for example you have the
table or a form based on that table open in another window.
Also if you have a hidden version of Access hanging out in memory.
Also some forms of corruption may cause this error message.

Reboot, compact, and try again.
