I get troubleshooting when trying to download the updates

Confused

I was attempting to download the latest updates (including serive packs , I
think). Then it came back with troubleshooting. All I did was look for
updates, and then tell it to intall. The answers it said were drive space,
something about the original CD, fullfile.... I have the original CD, but it
did not ask for anything. The downloading screen was ( the first one after
telling it to intall) came on for a second, then it popped off the screen and
gave me troubleshooting, but never gave the problem. I don't know if it could
not find something or what. It is MS Office pro edition 2003.

Hi, Confused,

There are lots of reasons why the updates can fail; perhaps you could try
the steps in this article:

How to troubleshoot failures updating your Office installation from the
Office Update Web site:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/304498/en-us

If you post back, please be specific about any errors you're getting, your
version of Office 2003, if you've successfully applied any updates in the
past, and what you've tried to troubleshoot the problem.

Hope that helps--

well I cleaned out my disk space, I had the CD itself, so I knew that wasn't
it. I forget the others. I think I have done it before, but since it probably
was a while ago, I don't know if there was difficulty before or not. I will
look at the website. There was one thing about the disk clean up may have
removed things that it needed, but I did that after the first time it did not
go through... so I don't think that was it. Thanks for your reply. I have the
professional version that you must have windows 2000, or XP I believe to run
it.

The thing is there is not an error message to it... the trouble shooting page
come up, without warning. There is the page after you tell it you accept and
to download, for a second. so I see what looks like it will download, then
the trouble shooting. The website so far has not been any help as I cannot
find my situation. Cleaning the disk drive did not help, as well as I have
the original CD ( which it doesn't ask for). I am wondering if I was
orginally supposed to use the CD to do it or something. I figured it would
automatically update w/o the CD. I will look more on the site, and possibly
contact microsoft as well, since I bought it separatly from the comp.

I was also wondering why there was not a specific troubleshooting notiion for
me. I attempted again, and still the troubleshooting list. I even tried
telling it only one, and still there were problems (from the update site).
am working with the browse. Here is the troubleshooting screen address:
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/FX010357071033.aspx. Still working on it.
Any other ideas would be helpful, thanks.

I think it is the registry key problem... but I do not want to go through
fixing that if it won't fix the trouble, or I have reinstall my OS. Can I
just uninstall Office and get those back after reinstalling Office 2003, and
then update?

I believe it is the missing registry keys. I do not want to fix that not
knowing if it will be fixed like the website says, and having to reinstall my
OS. Can I just uninstall Office 2003, reinstall it, and then update it? Would
the keys then return?
