I goofed on "Save"

I forgot to work with a backup copy and was on the original.
I erased most of the text and began a new document. Stupidly, I
forgot to "SAVE AS NEW" and the new document overwrote the original .

Is there any way I can find the ORIGINAL document?

Groan, I didn't have the "backup copy" box checked. So it's gone.
Oh, well.

I used to have it checked, but for reason I purposely unchecked it,
but can't remember why.

Wish I understood the "pros and cons" of some of these check boxes.

I expect you disabled it because the backup files do tend to pile up and can
glut a crowded hard drive. But a backup has saved my bacon just often enough
that the effort of going through my folders in Windows Explorer and clearing
out the backups from time to time is worth it for me.
