I had word then installed Corel and lost it, what next?

I bought a new Dell computer and it had Microsoft Word on it. I was used to
using Corel, so I installed it. A warning sign came up and said that I
wouldn't be able to use Microsoft word anymore. Now I can't access it.
Sometimes I can't download files that are document files. What can I do to
get Word back on?

Installing Corel WordPerfect (which I assume is what you mean) should not
have any effect at all on Word. If you agreed to having WP be the default
application to open .doc files, then they will not automatically open in
Word when you double-click on them.

To see if you still have Word installed, search for the file Winword.exe;
you may need to include hidden and system files in the search to find it. If
that file exists on the hard drive, then you still have Word even if you no
longer have a shortcut to start it.

You can create a new Word shortcut by right-clicking Winword.exe, choosing
Create Shortcut, and dragging the shortcut to your desktop, Programs menu,
or QuickLaunch toolbar. You can restore Word as the default application for
opening .doc files as follows:

1. Click the Start button and choose Run.

2. At the prompt, type

winword.exe /r

and press Enter. Note that there must be a space before the forward slash.
This will "reregister" Word (reestablish its association with the .doc and
..dot file types in the Windows Registry).
