I HATE WORD!!! How do I get rid of visible formatting???

I accidentally hit some key combination that made all the formatting
information (paragraph symbols, arrows for tabs, etc) suddely appear.
I go into the formatting menu and deselect "Show Formatting" and
nothing happens. I save the document, quit, and reopen, and it's still
there.

The really, really, really irritating part is, this happened a couple
of hours ago, and I fixed it by deselecting "Show Formatting". Now it
doesn't work.

Typical MS Word. Does anyone else hate this stupid POS program as much
as I do?

There... I feel better.

Tks!

Hi Butch,

I'm not sure what you mean by the Show Formatting command....?

Anyhow, nonprinting characters can be turned off and on by clicking ¶ in the
Standard toolbar. If that doesn't work, check the View settings in the Word
| Preferences menu. See here for more info, and an explanation of how
nonprinting characters can be extremely useful:

http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Formatting/NonPrintChars.htm
(hit reload a few times in Safari, or use a different browser)

Hope that helps,

Hello Butch,

Glad to provide therapy, along with fellow volunteer Daiya.

You may have keyed Command-8 to achieve what Daiya describes.

Post back if you find Word's default ("I-know-what's-best-for-you")
behaviour infuriating. I can give you some leads that might be useful.

Cheers,
