I just installed office 2000, I saved the old office 97 on the computer. I
want all the documents I open to be opened with the old office, for it to be
the defalt office and the other to work only when I open it up.

I'm not sure what you mean by 'saved old office...'
You need to install old version first, preferably custom install, into a
specific folder, then update.
Amend shortcuts, eg Word to Word97, then custom install O2k into an O2K
specific folder.
Office versions after O2K installed into a version specific folder.
Its likely if you simply installed O2k the overall office installation will
be corrupt/problomatic, and the office shortcuts will now point to O2K.

Hi Wolf,

Generally the last version you run of an Office app
will be the one that opens the files. The registry
pointers update to the currently in use version where
possible to keep the versions from stepping on each other.
