Adobe doesn't have a Desktop Publishing product.
If you are interested in price, Amazon has Quark for $850 and MS Publisher for $150.
High quality photos depend on high quality printers. This is where you should be
making comparisons.

Mary,

You could have also mentioned Serif PagePlus that is $100.00 or less
that also includes state-of-the-art pdf output without a need for
Acrobat, Primo or other programs.

Is it possible to take the photos from the desk top to the publishing house
on disk without preprinting the photos. This is why I wanted a quality
desktop publisher....If I need the printer I will get it... Will Microsoft
do the job or will it take Quark? dh

That sounds like something you need to discuss with your printer. (Assuming
you're talking about a print house and not that Canon that's sitting on your
desk. Canon's, like other brands, tend to be terrible conversationalists.)

Here's a link to a free PagePlus program. It's not quite as up-to-date
as PP10 (it lacks direct output to pdf, for example) but for someone who
wants to try the program, it will many things needed in DTP.

quality is a matter of the opeerator's knowledge and experience, and not
at all one of shich software is used.

I see the most ridiculus crap come into my service bureau made with the
most expensive software and zero understanding of what they are doing.

the repeat, Software is not the answer. Your knowledge and experience is.

Especially with photographs.

Do not expect to scan directly into any page application and have it
even pretend to have the quality acheivable by scanning into proper
photo editing software (of which there are only two on the PC...Corel
PhotoPaint and Adobe Photoshop...the others simply do not have the
ability to properly adjust an image for reproduction). And agina, not
knowing what you are doing will gaurantee a less than admirable job.

Mary Mary Mary you left out Serif PagePlus 10 a poultry $US129.99

Serif PagePlus10 beats the hell out of Publisher for features and has CMYK PDF all built in.
With Serif PagePlus there are no extras to buy and has substantially more features than MS Publisher.
The Book feature in PagePlus is just awesome - bloody absolutely *AWESOME*
Mary you would probably be the only person around here regularly that does not have Serif PagePlus.

I do not expect my staff to make such dramatic and terrible errors as not mentioning Serif PagePlus.
Mary how come you do not own Serif PagePlus yet???
