I have lost Windows Installer 2.0 when I installed the Windows XP.

Since I don't have Windows Installer 2.0, I cannot check for Office updates
nor download them. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Have you considered installing Windows Installer 2.x?

Don,

I would love to install/re-install Windows Installer 2.x, but I don't know
where to find it to install. I don't want to uninstall XP completely and
then re-install it. The only download Microsoft has is for Windows 98, NT
and ME because supposedly XP has it as part of the program.

Any ideas where I can find it to download?

Thanks.

It is possible that your problem is a bad entry for Office in the Windows
Installer configuration. If so, the cleanup utility at:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;290301

will help you fix the problem.

Windows XP has several options for repair {such as SFC /scannow} which do
not require a reinstallation of Windows XP. Suggest you seek help on
repairing Windows XP from:
microsoft.public.windowsxp.general
or
microsoft.public.windowsxp.help_and_support

Sorry, did not understand from your OP that you were using Windows XP.

Also, most find using Microsoft newsgroups easier by using a newsreader such
as Outlook Express. In Outlook Express, Tools, Accounts, News tab add a
account for: msnews.microsoft.com

Don, Thanks but not fixed. The cleanup didn't work nor could I find
anything on the two sites. Appreciate your time.

You are welcome.

However, the two references I gave you are not web sites but Microsoft
hosted peer newsgroups like this one. As with this newsgroup, you need to
post your question and wait for an someone to help you.

My problem is that I never had to repair a Windows installation. I keep a
current good image so that I can restore the image if I have any problems.
So my knowledge of repair is limited. SFC /Scannow is supposed to scan your
system and replace any damaged or missing files. There are at least two
other repair options short of reinstalling. IMO, reinstalling should be your
last option.

Again, I suggest you seek help from the Windows XP newsgroups.
