owever, when I try to install SP 3 it asks for the disk and to open a Student
Edition MSI (I think) file. I don't have that because I don't have the
student edition - I have the Basic Edition.
Do I need this service pack?

Bill Mac,
Did you have Office XP installed then upgraded to 2003? If so you may still
have some XP applications installed. Check add/remove programs. You'll need
the XP disk(s) to install the SP3 update.
