i have summary tasks i want to duplicate 50 times

I have 100 lines of tasks that I want to repeat 50 times in a project. Is
there a short cut to repeating these tasks other than copying and pasting the
major rollup summary task?

The easy way is to collapse the summary, copy the collapsed summary and then
paste 50 times. You could write a macro to do it, but that would take just
as long.

Using CTRL+V is the same as paste so that might be a little faster. You can
get pretty quick at CTRL+V and the Down Arrow keys.

Just a thought, since you will be adding 5000 lines to your schedule and
they will all be the same, I suggest you go back and edit them so that each
one is unique. Otherwise, you will eventually run into the problem of "Which
one of my 50 instances of 'test the software module' is running late?"

We run into this frequently and have a macro that will concatenate a phrase
on to the front end or back end of the task name. You can also do it to a
spare text field to get a similar result that will work with group By.
Although useful, these macros are not "free ware"

I concur with Jim's advice about unique task names.

I would just dump the names into Excel and use its concatenate function to
modify them before pasting back to the plan.

Hi Les,

You don't need to copy/paste 50 times. Do it once, then copy the 2 and
paste, then the 4..etc.

Hope this helps - please let us know how you get on :)
