I have to click delete twice to delete an email from my inbox

When I have messages in my inbox, and click to delete them, instead of
sending them to the "Deleted Items" Folder, they are automatically
permanently deleted.
Have checked required boxes to NOT delete folder on close, but this
happens while program is still open.
How do I fix this?
