Hello there everyone. I see that this forum is very serous about helping people. I hope you can help me too
I have read forum after forum. Tried many things, but maybe not everything yet?
TYPES OF CRASH (Entourage 2004 on Osx 10.5.5 / 10.4.11):
My "Main Identity" is about 1GB (all my emails and contacts).
I am mostly using Osx 10.5.5 ( I have multiple machines). ( I do also have a Macbook Pro which are 2 years old with Entourage 10.4.11. This older setup seems more stable than my new Imac 24 with Osx 10.5.5.)
Any way the setup with Enourage 2004 and the new intel macs with Osx 10.5.5. is more important for me!
Some of my problems are:
"Type A crash":
Unexpected Crashes (no message, just a message "Entourage unexpectedly crashed....", in my category a "type a" crash.
"Type B crash":
"Expected" crashed. As I look at (read) emails with "png" pictures attached Entourage crashes every time. Maybe not at the first peek (look at the email), but surely after a couple of times. It seems that sometime Entourage are not crashing that often when I am disconnected from the internet (as I look at old emails, checking....). Sometimes it helps to switch of the "error reporting", but not it seems, always....?
WHAT I HAVE TRIED:
1.) I did use the "remove office" application and performed a clean install (no change, problems persist).
2.) I have also tried to log on as a different user (taking a look at a typical "crash B" type of file (email with png attachement) and crash persist.
3.) I did try to install the 10.5.5 combo installer, but it did not seem to make any change. (I had 10.5.5 from before, but I read in this forum that doing a Combo might overwrite potentially damaged system files....), but I am not certain whether I understood this correctly.
WHAT I NEED TO BE CERTAIN ABOUT:
A.) I Have read in this forums that doing a 10.5.5 combo install is good medicine. Although I did already had the 10.5.5. I did it again. Was that an error? Is it any point doing a Combo 10.5.5 if you already have 10.5.5? (For example to clean up files potentially damaged system files)?
B.) I Have read in different forums that "switching off check database integrity" or to switch OFF "Perform Database Integrity check in the background" is a good tip to avoid crashes, but I am not sure. Sound like a risky thing? Is it safe to switch off? Should I do it?
C.) I did also read in forum that disabling the error report is a good medicine "Microsoft Error Reporting", set preferences to UNCHECK (OFF). Is this safe? True?
D.) Are there a download link for "Office 2004" (My original cd is corrupt, and I do only have a copied file (zip backup). This copy might be corrupt...? Are there any download available (full versions of Office 2004) with a "md5 checksum" (to check if the file is correctly received?
E.) Are there any point in doing restarts after a Entourage 2004 crash in 10.5.5 (Osx)? If I just start the program after a crash it seems very unstable.
Please help me! I do want to solve this without spending to much time
