I have two Word Icons in the system tray, what's wrong?

One window is always blank (a gray screen with a MS Word banner fills the
entire desktop) and it cannot be closed unless I close the entire Word
application or close the MS Word group. I have run updated Norton virus
scanner and MS anti-spyware. I have done a repair to Office. A final clue
is that if I open a text document and do a serach, the blank screen
immediately pops up over the opened text file and search will not find any
matches. It is as though there are two instances on MS Word running that are
somehow tied to eachother.

You are probably seeing designed behaviour.

When you open Word, it creates a presence on the Taskbar. If you open a
document without making use of the blank document, the will replace the
button that was there; however, if you modify the blank document and then
open another document, there will be two buttons present. This is meant to
make it easy to switch between open documents since you can do so by
clicking on the button for the one you want.
