I hjave reached the end...Outlook won't open Excel attachment....

I am using Office 2003 and have had problems with Outlook for ages.

1. Multiple E-mail downloads of the same message
2. Outlook hanging up
3. Address book will not work

And today I received an Excel spreadsheet from a client who sends me one
each week and I can't open it....Outlook keeps the hourglass and then it goes
to "Not Responding" in the task list.

I have tried other e-mail programs but they don't have a good interface and
I cannot Sync my Blackberry. I have deleted my .pst file as recently as
February when a Tech Support phone called resulted in being told that the
file was corrupt, so I blew out 5 years worth of goodies in my file.

I have deleted and installed Office 4 times in the past month. No help.

Is the answer switching to Office 2007? I will try anything at this
point.....and I know Outlook Express will work but I prefer to use what I
want rather than what will work.

Thank you

Elliot

Thanks for responding.

Yes, I have disconnected the only Add-in which is SpamBayes....although most
of the problems started long before I downloaded and installed this Spam
Filter.

I am running MS XP Professional with SP 2.

This is a new computer as of February 19th 2007. I had the machine built
and there was ZERO Bloatware.

I installed Office 2003 and had problems...that is when I calls Microsoft
customer support and was told I had a corrupted .pst file. So we made a new
profile and blew out the old .pst file....but Outlook still acts the same.

Funny thing is I had a Registered Office 2003 Professional AND also a 2003
Small Business.....and for this computer I purchased a new copy of Office
2003 hoping to resolve all the issues with a Brand New computer.

The other computer that this replaced was only 13 months old. I have tried
Pegasus, Foxmail, The Bat and 10 others but it always comes back to the look
and feel of Outlook....although Outlook Express works well for me and always
had but I get 350 e-mails a day and 1/3 are spam so it really needs to be
filtered.

One other interesting thing. When I click on a link in an e-mail...like the
link to this thread when notified, a box opens up so as to choose a program
but sometimes another window opens up of Firefox or I.E. I switch between
I.E. and Firefox as I always try to use I.E. but there are some inherent
problems but Firefox is not perfect either, especially if you need it to
automatically refresh every visit to a page.

Thank you

It this were my PC and was experiencing all of the weird problems you report
(especially after installing 10 e-mail clients), I would just re-install
Windows and start over.

Thank you for your suggestion.

Installing Windows again would mean hours of installing all of my programs
for Post Processing and the settings......it took me 3 days after I received
this computer.

Funny thing is that everyprogram works Photoshop, Corel, WS_FTP on and
on....but the only problem that I have is with Outlook.

The system is 100% clean of .TMP, .BAK and any other slowdown......My
Firewall is Windows as it Defender and my AV is NOD32.

There is no waste on the computer......there has to be another answer.

I agree that there has to be another answer...but that is what I would do if
it were my PC. Given your multiple symptoms, I wouldn't hold out for a
single solution to fix them all. To be fair, I keep an image of my PC that
includes all of my applications so I can restore it to "like new" in just a
few minutes...that alone helps a lot. I'm sure someone here will post some
good suggestions. Good luck.
