I insert page numbers, "not on first page"...and my header disappe

My letterhead template is set up to have a logo/address that appears only on
the first page of a Word document. After the first page, there's a section
break after which I have "unlinked" the header from page 1, and erased the
logo/address. So far, so good.

If I insert page numbers to appear on ALL the pages, everything works as it
should. So far, good.

But when I try to insert a page number, AND check the box that excludes the
first page from the numbering, the logo/address disappears on the first page
as well. So far, not so good.

What am I (or Word) doing wrong? Thanks in advance.

You're going about this wrong to begin with. You do not need a section
break; you need "Different first page" formatting. See

Thank you, I haven't read it all yet but that information will thoroughly
answer my question. I'd give your reply the highest rating possible, if I
knew how. I've searched for where they want us to rate posts, and can't find
it, unless they simply mean answering the question of whether the reply
answered the question. Is there some other place I'm supposed to "rate" the
reply? Thanks again.
